52 year old Phil Mickelson, who has been in the news for the last few months for all the wrong reasons, dropped yet another bombshell on his fans by announcing he will not be defending his title at this week’s major – the PGA Championship. Mickelson, who became the oldest-ever winner of a Major championship at 51 last year, has not been seen on any tour since his controversial comments about the proposed Saudi backed Professional Golf League and the PGA Tour back in February.
Earlier this year Mickelson skipped the Masters for the first time in almost three decades. The PGA of America put out the following a statement on Twitter:”We have just been informed that Phil Mickelson has withdrawn from the PGA Championship.”Phil is the defending champion and currently eligible to be a PGA life member and we would have welcomed him to participate.”
