Former Noida junior Anika Varma continues to impress with consistent top class performances in America. This time, Anika, who’s family shifted base to California a few years back to work on her golf game, teamed up with fellow 16 year old Meghan Royal of California and made the pre quarter finals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship in Texas, where they were defeated 4 & 3.
The 6th edition of the USGA’s team event saw participation from 64 teams who went through regional qualifiers set up in different parts of the U.S. Anika and Meghan won the regional qualifier in Arizona and then made the final 64 after shooting 72-71 in the stroke play section. In their first round they won 2&1 to make it to the pre quarters.
Anika will have a busy summer amateur season ahead. She narrowly missed moving ahead in a California qualifier for the U.S. Women’s Open with rounds of 74-75 (5-over 149).
