17-year-old Akshay Bhatia ranked No.5 on the World
Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), is all set to make his PGA
TOUR debut at the upcoming $6.6 million Sanderson Farms Championship starting tomorrow.
Bhatia long announced his intentions to forgo college and turn professional after high school. Two months ago, Bhatia announced the Safeway Open as his platform for his professional debut.
Now, it looks like the Safeway Open will be his tournament No.2 as he announced on Monday (Sep.16) he will be playing at this week’s Sanderson Farms Championship via a sponsor’s exemption.
“That feeling when the time has officially come,” Bhatia wrote on Instagram. “A special thanks to everyone on my team that has helped me get here this week, especially my family for supporting me all the way. Let’s do this!”
